Temples In Punjab
Punjab is an Indo and Iranian word meaning "the
land of five rivers". Punjab lies at the cross roads of the great
civilizations of the world. Historicaly, the area west of Punjab was under the
sphere of influence of the Persians, the east was the heartland of the Indian
civilization, the south under the influence of the Arabs and the north under
the Turko-Mongolian influence.

Famous Golden Temple In Amritsar :
The holiest shrine of the Sikh religion is in the centre of the old part of
town. The temple itself is surrounded by the lake which gave the town its
name. A causeway connects the temple in the middle of the pool and a loudspeaker
broadcasts a continuous reading of the Granth Sahib, in Punjabi.
Gurdwara Alamgir In Ludhiana :
This Gurudwara stands at a place where Guru Gobind Singh stayed for a few
days after covering journey full of hazards, because of the presence of Mughal
military contingents in the area. On reaching Alamgir 11 km from Ludhiana
and not finding any drinking water, the Guru shot an arrow into the ground
where appeared a spring.
Jalandhar Devi Talab Mandir :
Devi Talab Mandir is located about one km from the railway station. The old
Devi Talab has been renovated and in its centre, a new temple has been built.
Recently a model of Amarnath Yatra has been built in the premises. An old
temple of goddess Kali also stands by the side of the Devi Talab.
Ram Tirth Temple In Amritsar :
The Shri Ram Tirath complex is a holy place on the Amritsar-Chogawan road,
where Valmiki Maharaj composed Ramayana. The temple site is also the place
of birth of Luv and Kush, sons of Lord Rama when Sita spent some time there.
Durgiana Mandir (Lakshmi Narain Temple ) In Amritsar :
Durgiana Mandir, an important religious pilgrimage of The Hindus is in the
Northern India. It is situated in Holy Amritsar City of Punjab. It is a few
yards away from Railway Station & about 1.5 km. from the Bus Stand. This
city of Amritsar is pious, as it was visited by Lord Rama, Maryada Parshotam
at the time of Ashavmegh Yagh. Lov & Kush spent their childhood alongwith
their mother Mata Sita at the Ashram of Maharishi Balmiki at Ram Tirath.
Jalandhar Shiv Mandhir, Gur-mandi, In Jalandhar :
The Shiv Temple situated at Gur Mandi near Imam Nasir mausoleum dates back
to the Lodhi Era. Believed to be built by the Nawab of Sultanpur Lodhi, the
mandir is a blend of Muslim Hindu architecture.
Rauza Sharif, Sirhind In Patiala :
Can be reached both from Patiala, 50 Kms north as well as from Chandigarh
by road and by train. The magnificent and spacious Rauza is a mausoleum which
commemorates the burial place of Mujadid-alf-Saani Sheikh Ahmed Farooqi, Kabuli,
Sirhindi who lived during the reigns of Akbar and Jahangir from 1563 to 1634.
The old mosque in the vicinity is extant, so are several cenotaphs. The tomb
of the Shah Zaman, one of the Kings of Afghanistan indicates that the Rauza
was once considered a propitious burial place of high and mighty.
The Moorish Mosque In Kapurthala :
This Mosque, patterned after the Qutbya Mosque in Morocco, was designed by
famous French architect M. Manteaux. It has a large compound paved with the
purist Indian marble. The artists of the school of Art, Lahore, decorated
the inner dome.
Gurudwara Kiratpur Sahib In Ropar :
Kiratpur Sahib was founded by the sixth Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib. Here the
seventh and eighth Gurus were born and brought up. It was here that Guru Gobind
Singh along with his followers received the sacred head of the ninth Guru
Sri Tegh Bahadur, brought from Delhi with great devotion and respect by Bhai
Jaita in 1675.
