New Delhi is an urban area within the metropolis of Delhi that is the capital
city of the Republic of India. New Delhi was planned by Edwin Lutyens, a leading
20th century British architect. It houses the Indian Government and the Government
of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, making it the powerhouse of Indian
politics. traditionally the capital of India, although Calcutta was the capital
until 1911 during the British Rule.
Famous Temples in Delhi :
Chattarpur Mandir in New Delhi :
The Chattarpur Temple is dedicated to goddess Durga, while you can also worship
Shiva, Vishnu, Lakshmi or Ganesh in adjoining temples. During Durga Puja days,
this place attracts a large number of devotees, who gather here to offer prayers.
It is believed that tying a thread on a tree located in the temple premises
will get your wishes fulfilled.
Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir in New Delhi :
Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is situated opposite the Red Fort in Delhi. Dating
back to the rule of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, it is considered as the
oldest temple of the city. Originally, Delhi Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir
was built in 1658 AD.
Iskcon Temple In New Delhi :
The ISKCON Temple of Delhi is located at Raja Dhirshain Marg, Sant Nagar,
near the East of Kailash locality. It is one of the 40 temples in India that
belongs to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, dedicated
to Lord Krishna.
Lakshmi Narayan Temple in New Delhi :
The one thing that dominates the urbane skyline of Central Delhi is apparently
the soaring spire of the Lakshmi Narayan Temple. About 1.5 km due west of
Connaught Place, this garish, modern, Orissan styled temple was erected by
industrialist B.D.Birla in 1938 and was inaugrated by Mahatma Gandhi on the
condition that people of all castes especially untouchables would be allowed
in.
New Delhi Lotus Temple :
Lotus Temple is located in Kalkaji in the south of Delhi, it is lotus shaped
and has rightly been given the name. It is made of marble, cement, dolomite
and sand. It is open to all faiths and is an ideal place for meditation and
obtaining peace and tranquility.
Jamma Masjid in New Delhi :
Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India, also known by the name
of "Masjid-i-Jahan Numa" (visible to the world).
Situated near the Red Fort in Delhi, it is one of the last monuments built
by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Designed as Shah Jahan's primary mosque, Jamma
Masjid of Delhi is built in red sandstone, with an extensive use of white
marble.
Hanuman Mandir in New Delhi :
Hanuman Mandir is situated at the Baba Kharak Singh Marg (road) near Connaught
Place. One of the oldest Hanuman temples in the country, it was built by Maharaja
Jai Singh in the year 1724. However, since the time of its construction the
Lord Hanuman Temple of New Delhi has undergone many restorations.
Abdu Nabi`s Mosque in New Delhi :
Abdu' Nabi's Mosque, a rubble built structure, lies with its back on the Mathura
road near the Tilak Bridge. It was built in 1575 -1576 by Shaikh 'Abdu' Nabi,
the ecclesiastical registrar in Akbar's reign.
The mosque consists of a prayer hall which can be entered through three arched
openings. The facade of the prayer hall was originally decorated with colored
tiles, which have been mostly disappeared.
New Delhi Chauburji Masjid :
Chauburji-Masjid is situated to the south-east of the flagstaff tower in New
Delhi. This double-storied structure was built by Feroze Shah Tughluq. It
is made with a central chamber surrounded by a small chamber on each side.
Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya in New Delhi :
Nizamuddin Dargah enshrines Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya or Nizam-ud-Din, a revered
Sufi saint. During the lifetime of the saint, a settlement developed here,
still inhabited and known by the name of Nizamuddin. Hazrat Nizam-ud-Din Auliya
Dargah of Delhi also entombs Amir Khusrau, a poet and the saint's favorite
disciple.
Jamali Kamali Mosque in New Delhi :
The Jamali Kamali masjid (mosque) and tomb is situated near the Qutub Minar
complex and is set within a beautiful park. The mosque's simple lines give
it an air of simple elegance and quiet contemplation. Through the door on
the right lies a small chamber in which Jamali and Kamali are buried.
Khirki Ki Masjid in New Delhi :
About 2 kilometers northeast of Qutab Minar, located in the center of Khirki
Village, is the unique Khirki Masjid or Mosque. It is just off the Press Enclave,
and 2 kilometers south of Begumpuri Masjid. Khirki Mosque or the Window Mosque
with Kalan Masjid is one among the only two examples of closed mosques in
northern India.
Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in New Delhi :
Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is situated near to Connaught Place in New Delhi. The
place where the Gurdwara now stands was once a splendid bungalow of Raja Jai
Singh Amber of Jaipur. Guru Sri Harkishan, the eighth guru of the Sikhs, stayed
in this bungalow as guest of Raja Jai Singh.
New Delhi Sis Ganj Gurdwara :
The Gurdwara Sis Ganj is located on the main Chandni Chowk near the historic
Red Fort. This is one of the most revered pilgrimages of the Sikh community.
It commemorates the site where on the orders of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb,
Guru Tegh Bahadur; the ninth guru of the Sikhs was beheaded. He was martyred
here in 1675 under a banyan tree.
Gurdwara Nanak Piao in Delhi :
Dedicated to the first Sikh Guru Sri Nanak Dev, Gurdwara Nanak Piao was built
at the site, in the garden where he camped when he visited Delhi in 1505 during
the reign of Sultan Sikander Shah Lodhi. It is situated on Rana Pratap Road.
Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tila in New Delhi :
Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tila is situated opposite Timarpur Colony beyond Khyber
Pass in Delhi. The Gurdwara is dedicated to Guru Nanak who sanctified this
place in the 15th century.
Gurdwara Rakab Ganj in New Delhi :
Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib was constructed in the year 1732, by Lakhi Banjara,
one of the followers of martyred Sikh Guru Teg Bahadur who also performed
his last rites. There is an interesting legend attached to Rakaabganj Gurudwara
of New Delhi.
New Delhi Church Of The Sacred Heart :
Cathedral of The Sacred Heart is situated near the Gol Post Office in New
Delhi. Father Luke, from Franciscan First Order founded by St. Francis of
Assisi, wanted to build a church in Delhi. So, he purchased the land near
the Gol Post Office for the purpose.
Cathedral Church Of The Redemption in New Delhi :
Cathedral of The Sacred Heart is situated to the east of Parliament House
in New Delhi. The construction of the church took eight years and got completed
in the year 1935. Henry Medd, who designed the Cathedral of The Sacred Heart,
designed this church also.
Akshardham Temple In New Delhi :
The Akshardham Temple in Delhi, is the latest tourist attractions in India.
Situated on the banks of Yamuna river, the temple was inaugurated on November
7, 2005. The temple constructed under the patronage of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam
Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), spreads over an area of 100 acres.
