till the recent past lived in secluded isolation. Kinnaur, it is said, fell
from the heavens as a gift from the gods. Its people, the Kinners, according
to ancient Hindu texts, are halfway between humans and gods. Sarahan, gateway
to Kinnaur, is revered as one of the shakti peeths and the seat of power of
the Bushair rulers.
From here one approaches Sangla valley, one of the beautiful sights of Kinnaur,
and district headquarters Recong Peo, Kalpa, Kinner Kailash, a mythical abode
of Lord Shiva, can be viewed from here.
This tour will take you to the tribal regions of Himachal Pradesh. Experience
the life style & culture of the people of Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur.
View some of the most fascinating and thousand years old monasteries. The tour
will end in Shimla, once summer capital of India.
Day 01 : Manali - Batal (100 kms)
Travel by jeep from Manali to Batal over the Rohtang Pass (3980 m). Overnight
in tents at Batal.
Day 02 : Batal - Kaza (88 kms)
Travel by jeep from Batal to Kaza by jeep over the Kunzam Pass (4558 m). Overnight
in tents at Kaza.
Day 03 : Kaza
Morning visit the Ki monastery, 12 kms from Kaza. This centuries – old
gompa is a labyrinth of rooms and corridors. It houses valuable thangkas and
offers a panoramic view of the area. Also visit the small gompa at Kibber, 9
kms further ahead. Kibber at 4205 m has the distinction of being the highest
permanently inhabited village of the region. Overnight in tents at Kaza.
Day 04 : Kaza
An excursion visiting Pin Valley, the land of Ibex and Snow Leopards. Also visit
an old monastery Gungri monastery in Pin Valley. Overnight in tents at Kaza.
Day 05 : Kaza – Tabo (48 kms)
Travel by jeep from Kaza to Tabo by jeep enroute visiting Dhankar gompa. This
gompa rests high over the valley and is a stupendous example of local architecture.
Founded in 996 AD by the great teacher Richensang-po, Tabo is renowned for its
breathtaking murals and stucco images – and is often called “The
Ajanta of the Himalayas”. Tabo’s sanctity is next only to Tibet’s
Tholing gompa. Overnight in tents at Tabo.
Day 06 : Tabo – Sangla (185 kms)
Travel by jeep from Tabo to Sangla by jeep enroute visiting Nako, built around
a lake, this is one of Kinnaur's most charming villages. Travel onwards to Sangla
passing Khab, the confluence of the rivers Spiti and Sutlej. On arrival check
in at camps. Overnight in camps.
Day 07 : Sangla
In picturesque settings and with interesting architecture, visit the village
of Chitkul. Overnight in camps.
Day 08 : Sangla – Sarahan (92 kms)
Travel by jeep from Sangla to Sarahan by jeep. On arrival check in at hotel.
Afternoon visit the famous Bhimakali temple, regarded as one of the Shaktipeeths.
Day 09 : Sarahan – Shimla (184 kms)
Travel by jeep from Sarahan to Shimla. On arrival check in at hotel. Overnight
at hotel.
Day 10 : Shimla – Delhi
Intime you will be met by Max Holidays representative at Shimla and will be
shifted to the railway station to board your train journey back to Delhi.
